Frösakull

Another week gone by!  This one has seen the tail end of the Swedish "summer" tapering into fall.  We had guests on Wednesday last week, a friend of Bea's from daycare plus family.  A French-themed dinner was served, and the kids all played well together.

Over the weekend some members of the bike club cycled down to one member's sumemr house outside of Halmstad, while a couple of members of our sister club rode up from Malmö.  We did this a couple of years ago too, and royally stomped their collective butts in the "race".  They beat us this year, but we won our age division.

The last 40 km were pretty wet, so hot food was appreciated...

The next day we waited for a pause from the rain and walked to the beach.  Madeleine and Bea had driven down, and they led the pack...

Kräftskiva

So, another week of summer behind us.  The last one?  It's raining now and the forecast for the coming week isn't so pretty...

Kulterkalaset, the Culture Party (festival) was last week.  About the closest thing we have to a county fair, minus the livestock and whole ag-centrism.  I took Bea in a couple of times after daycare, and we had dinner from the international food wagons at Gustav Adolfs Torg a couple of times.

There were some rides of course.

We had a pretty laid back weekend.  Bea made some no-bake chocolate cookies...

...And we had a little crayfish party, traditional for August.  These were locally-sourced "sea crayfish".  I'm sure there's a better term for them in English.  Isn't there some sort of French word for a small lobster?  Something like that.

Bea likes her kräfter.  We took the carcasses and made a fishy stock which got made into a Soupe de Poissons the next day.  Tonight we have guests, and are serving the Soupe for a first course, barbecued pork and white beans with Provencal flavors for a main course, a cheese plate, and a plum clafoutis for dessert.  Oh-la-la!

Camping

The weather prognosis for the weekend was good, so we took a spontaneous camping trip.  We called ahead and booked our favorite spot near Hyssna, and took a leisurely drive out there with our gear.  We stopped at Peter Korn's Trädgård to look at the flowers...

And then set up camp as soon as we arrived, because the skies looked threatening.  In vain, thankfully.  I'd bought ingredients for pizzas, so we had our BBQ and some pre-made dough with us, and made them wilderness-style.

We stayed up till late looking for meteors, but with no real luck.  In the morning we made coffee and baked bread on the fire, and had some sausage and potato hash before heading back into town.

New pictures

Just picked up a new digital camera, so have been playing around with it a bit.

Had dinner with Matt, Emilie, Alice and Lucy last night.

We've joined the 21st century with a digital media player hooked up to our ancient component system.  The Raspberry Pi is temporarily stored in the transparent plastic box barely visible to the left of the TV, it connects the system to our network and the internet.  It can be controlled by wireless keyboard or Android phone, and plays well with four decades of antiquated A/V gear.
