Bea makes a birthday cake

Bea missed out on celebrating her dad's birthday, so she wanted to make him a cake. She made a list of the ingredients we were missing and bought what she needed at the store.

She made it all by herself with her dad helping just with the oven and stovetop. She even modified the recipe she was following to her liking, making a chocolate ganache with peanuts in it.

Guess who wants to be a baker when she's grown-up?

Birthday in Copenhagen

We started the night at Mikkeler, where they have a few beers on tap (here's just half of them!)

We tasted our way through a few of them...

...which led to a rather surreal trip back to our hotel.

In the morning we walked along the beach and then took the subway into town.

We have spent some time in Copenhagen during the past few years, but we've missed some new things such as this theater.

Inside is a nice and reasonable restaurant, with a selection of smörrebröd and this nice Danish tartare.

Truly, only in Copenhagen: a bamboo bike and a front-driven rear-steered cargo bike.

Even the kids are in on it.

Sturgill Simpson put on a rollicking show and then it was time for our late-night drive across the bridge and back home again.

Autumn arrives

Summer made a good run of it 2014, but this weekend hosted the equinox (and Alice's birthday) and we can safely declare it fall in Göteborg.

Bea's favorite ice cream this summer was raspberry-licorice, so we made a big batch of it to celebrate the end of the season.

Friday

Bea started her after school English classes today, with some familiar faces (Elliott and Noah from ABC). After running some errands we came home and finished our teepee with some scaffolding tarp we found. Dinner was enjoyed within. Later we popped in to the neighbors, who were having little concert in the living room.

Saturday in the woods

Huh, that leaf looks familiar.

Not many mushrooms but some nice moss.

A neighbor lady drew this portrait of Bea from a photo.

September Indian Summer

Gaspard loves the dog park. Sometimes he even meets other whippets!

Bea and Hans had a macaroni and cheese dinner in the evening sun under the church.

Bea has been making a series of car sculptures with wire.

Camping trip

They predicted nice weather Friday night so we headed out to our favorite camping spot.
Gaspard loved it. He was king of the hill.

Bea helped set up the tent. We did need to put the fly on in a middle-of-the-night panic.

Dinner made in the campfire: pumpkin filled with couscous, baked beans and sausage.

No s'mores. Baklava.

Breakfast from the fire.

To our surprise, a trail marathon was scheduled to run past our campground this morning.
