Bea and Hans had signed up for a parent-child carving class at Nääs, the craft center east of town near Alingsås. It had been years since we'd been there.
This sampler building was new and impressive.
Check out these roof joists!
Bea handled her knife well during the first exercise, de-barking a stick.
Gaspard preferred using his teeth.
The instructor, David.
A finished walking stick.
Put to good use on our walk to lunch.
Our facilities were very nice.
Old prints showing work technique.
The classroom.
Student exercises and simple wooden planes.
Then we made hooks.
And a whistle! From mountain-ash.
It really works!
Naturally we had to get Bea a small knife of her own at the handicrafts store afterwards. A Frosts, from Mora.
